GENERAL MESSAGE

Gateway Planning combines the disciplines of town planning, urban design, public-private finance and community facilitation, focusing always on implementation. Our firm works with governments, transit authorities and universities to harness growth into mixed-use pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods.

We complement our plans with form-based codes that harness the market's ability to sustain growth. We believe that the key to implementation is integrating urban design into development standards, designing streets for people in a network context, and promoting neighborhood businesses.

Our firm specializes in tying place-making with the economics of transportation, especially transit. This enables our firm to link land use and transportation in a substantial way. In this context, the firm serves clients from small downtowns to large metropolitan cities for integrated planning and economic development initiatives.


Principals Scott Polikov and Jay Narayana provide small firm service with a national reputation. Among other things, Scott serves as a national board member for the Congress for the New Urbanism. Prior to joining Gateway Planning, Jay was the chief planner for Southlake, Texas, overseeing the second phase development of the nationally recognized Southlake Town Square. Our work has earned various awards including the inaugural Driehaus Award by the National Form-Based Codes Institute for the best code in the country.
